The PA Bureau of Autism to offer free training opportunity for professionals supporting individuals on the autism spectrum
The Office of Developmental Programs, Bureau of Autism Services has announced open registration for a training opportunity for professionals supporting individuals on the autism spectrum in Pennsylvania, to be held at various locations around the state. The training is no-cost, and will provide a better understanding of ASD (e.g., core deficits) and highlight considerations for successful support (e.g., navigating challenging behaviors, communicating with individuals with autism, and successful family and team engagement).
According to the Pennsylvania Autism Census, there are over 55,000 children and adults in PA with autism. Data from the census indicate a 181% overall increase of individuals with ASD in PA from 2005 to 2011 and a 334% increase of adults (21+). This dramatic upward trend is expected to continue. Based on these statistics, there is an increasing possibility that direct support professionals providing supports and services in Pennsylvania will interact with a child or adult with autism.
The training is for professionals who directly support people with ASD (e.g., Employment Specialists, Music Therapists, Licensed Professional Counselors, Registered Nurses, Home Health Aides, Adult Program Providers).
Professionals will receive continuing education credit for attending:
