The Pennsylvania Department of Health and the PEAL Center are hosting a weekend Institute for youth with disabilities to become empowered to make changes in their lives and communities.
The PEAL Center is looking for youth leaders with disability from Pennsylvania, ages 14-26, to participate in a Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) and to bring their experiences to the group. Exciting activities planned where youth will meet other young leaders who are making a difference in their communities. Youth leaders with disabilities from eastern Pennsylvania are encouraged to apply.
The Youth Leadership Institute works to promote the development of self-advocacy and leadership in youth with disabilities and is meant to develop youth leaders who have the necessary skills to lead future events. The YLI leaders are responsible for fostering an atmosphere of acceptance, tolerance, and fun.
The YLI will be held Friday May 15th at 6:00 PM to Saturday May 16th at 4:00 PM at the Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living (LVCIL) and the Holiday Inn in Allentown.
A grant will pay for a hotel room for participants (and a support person) and meals will be provided during the YLI.
To register, click here to go to the online application.
Applications are due by May 1st. Space is limited. Youth will be notified of their selection by May 3rd.
